Alpha Phi Omega was founded on the principles of the Boy Scouts of America. Over the years, APO’s Scouting and Youth Services program has expanded to encompass all service with and to youth, including the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Camp Fire USA, Youth Service America, America’s Promise, and many other programs.

National Service Partners

The following organizations support Alpha Phi Omega in its mission to develop leadership, to promote friendship, and to provide service to humanity through their partnerships:

National Service Events

National Service Week
National Service Week (NSW) is a week-long event that takes place the first week of November each year. At each biennial National Convention, a theme is decided for the next two years and then each chapter creates a service project that corresponds with the given theme.

Spring Youth Service Day
Spring Youth Service Day (SYSD) is a weekend-long service event focused on providing service for and with the young of the world. SYSD takes place in mid-April each year. This event corresponds with Youth Service America’s Global Youth Service Day, the largest service event in the world.

Youth Service Grant

The Alpha Phi Omega Youth Service Grant (YSG) Program provides $100 to $500 grants for qualifying APO chapters to conduct a service project that relates to socially positive programs for pre-college-age youth. The Alpha Phi Omega Endowment facilitates the funding for this special program, and The APO Youth Service Grant Review Committee evaluates the applications and funds as many appropriate projects as possible.

Program Recognitions

Alpha Phi Omega offers award certificates for young people earning their scouting program’s highest award, including:

  • BSA Eagle Scout Award
  • BSA Venturing Silver Award
  • Sea Scouts Quartermaster Award
  • GSUSA Gold Award
  • Camp Fire Wo-He-Lo Award
Requests should be placed at least three weeks before the ceremony on the APO website. These awards are a great way to recognize young men and women who have done outstanding service, and introduce them to a college program that will allow them to continue that service. Contact the Scouting and Youth Services Coordinator for more information.
